The Bumpy Little Pumpkin
A classroom favorite that I used to read aloud to my 1st grade class every fall.
Throughout the summer, Little Nell has tended the garden with her family and older sisters. With the pumpkins finally ripe and ready for picking, Little Nell’s sisters choose smooth, round, “perfect” pumpkins to carve. Little Nell decides she likes a bumpy little pumpkin best. Her sisters admonish her choice, calling her pumpkin ugly and inferior. But Little Nell ignores them, and with the help from her animal friends, carves it into a festive jack-o'-lantern.
A story that illustrates how pumpkins, like people, come in all shapes and sizes and it’s important to be true to yourself and what you like, regardless of the criticism you may receive. 🎃
