The Night Flower

When I think about how much I’ve learned from children’s books in the last 10 years, it’s astonishing! The plethora of topics covered in children’s literature today is insane! Kids have no idea how great they have it; I feel like while we had a lot of great books to choose from when I was a kid, the selection and range of topics was nowhere near what it is today.

Take The Night Flower, for example. Have you ever heard of the saguaro cactus? A cactus that blooms for only ONE night in the Arizonan desert? The quiet desert is transformed into a cacophony of color and sound as animals and insects alike gather to participate in this elusive miracle of nature. Gorgeous illustrations and told in lilting rhyme, this book makes for an impromptu science lesson about a plant like no other.
