Dr. Seuss's Horse Museum

The art history major in me is giddy about this book. My daughter received this as a birthday gift, and my husband immediately asked, “How is Dr. Seuss still writing books?” Turns out, 21 years after Theodore Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss’) death, they found a box in his studio containing this manuscript and preliminary sketches.

This book is like an interactive kid-friendly trip to the museum, explaining horse-themed artwork through the ages in relatable, digestible text with engaging illustrations. My newly 6-year old maintained rapt attention throughout and even declared it “the best book!” I’ve found so many books featuring real art intended for kids are weighed down with words and cumbersome descriptions while this was lively and engaging. Yay for any book that makes art museums fun and relatable.
