Trailblazer: The Story of Ballerina Raven Wilkinson
I missed posting this on #internationalwomensdaybut it’s too good not to share.
Many people don’t know the story of Raven Wilkinson, the first African American woman to dance for a major classical ballet company. Born in 1935, all Raven wanted to do was dance! She overcame many hardships, and endured endless racism, especially in the South. In her career, danced with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo for many years, danced for royalty with the Dutch National Ballet, and performed regularly in New Year City until she was fifty.
Raven's story is one that deserves to be told. She’s began to break down racial barriers that existed within the ballet community and has inspired many, including Misty Copeland. This book is ideal for kids age Kindergarten and up.
