Bring Me Some Apples and I'll Make You a Pie

I really enjoyed Bring Me Some Apples and I'll Make You a Pie- and it kept my kids attention as well. This story traces the roots of Edna Lewis, a woman born in Freetown, Virginia in 1916 in a community founded by her grandfather and two emancipated slaves. She learned to cook by helping her mother and aunts prepare meals for their large family. She later grew up to become a famous chef and was renown for her holistic approach to cooking, loving the land and tending to her garden meticulously which yielded produce so delicious it deserved to be celebrated. 
The language and word choice is exquisite, painting a vivid picture of a farm to table life before “farm to table” was a thing. Reading this will surely make you crave sun ripened tomatoes and the tart sweetness of a freshly picked apple.
