Extra Yarn

Extra Yarn by Mac Barnett is a personal favorite. I have always loved reading this aloud to my class. There are so many reasons to love this book; the lovely illustrations, Annabelle's earnest zeal for knitting sweaters for every single thing, the caricatured archduke villain, the last line of text...

But I mostly love it for the dialogue that always ensued amongst my students after finishing the last page. Some loved it! Some remained puzzled and bewildered, waiting for a different ending to appear wrapped up neatly in a bow. Others shared unusual theories, conspiracy or otherwise... Regardless, a book that got them talking. In my teacher playbook, that's a win!
