Lawrence in the Fall

A new fall read we enjoyed! When Lawrence is asked to bring a collection to school, he feels anxious and unprepared. His classmates buzz in anticipation, excited to share their various collections with each other, but Lawrence laments to his family that he doesn’t collect anything. Turning to nature to reflect, he looks to what others collect. He considers the rocks collecting in the riverbed, the flies in the spider’s web, and finds himself in awe of the beautiful leaves, fading from red to orange. At that moment, he decides that's it- leaves! Leaves of honey locusts, white birches, sycamores, all vibrant and beautiful- tangible signs of the season. This book reminded me a lot of Kate Banks’ book, Max’s Words and how it’s important to blindly follow the herd and to search for what truly resonates with you. https://amzn.to/2MNZPHX
